The untold story: when you left

On the day you left me, you filled up boxes and bags with your belongings and said goodbye to our home. When I came back that day, I was not greeted by your normal presence, but instead met with an unmissable absence. The apartment that used to be ours was now only mine, and it came with a half empty closet, a television without an xbox, and a double bed with only one duvet and pillow.

But it was okay, I was prepared for that move. I had seen you box down and label your clothes, and I had been with you when you ordered your moving van. We had sat down together in the living room and gone through all of our belongings, deciding who got to keep what and what you were bringing with you. I knew it was going to happen, no matter what I said or did, so I found it easiest just to accept it.

But what I was not prepared for was you taking away so much more than what we had agreed upon. So many essential items that I had not allowed you to take away from me were suddenly missing. Tucked between your shirts and jeans, you had taken away some things so much more valuable.

The first thing I noticed was how you had taken away my happiness. It took a good few days of convincing everyone I was fine until I realised I wasn’t. Something was missing, and it was more than your body next to mine sound asleep. You had left me and taken with you my happiness and motivation, leaving me an emotional mess but not bothering to do any damage control. When I called you in tears you said there was nothing you could do. That I would just have to move on and start anew. But how was I supposed to look ahead and move on when every plan for my future had you in it?

Then I realised how you had also taken away my consistent and safe sleeping pattern, and swapped it with an uncontrollable schedule which left me up all night and tired all day. The few times I finally got some hours of sleep, my usual dreams were all replaced by horrible nightmares. I couldn’t decide which was worse, staying awake begging for some sleep, or being haunted by nightmares crying for it to be over. What was even worse, was that while I was suffering from my insomnia, you were far away in a stranger’s bed calmly breathing in and out the uninterrupted nights of sleep that I had spent so long perfecting.

But not only did you take away my inner peace and happiness. Somehow you also got the control over my appetite, and therefore started shaping and reshaping my appearance. Some weeks I wouldn’t eat at all, while others I would binge. You would make my body show bones I had never seen before, before covering it all up with flesh as raw as my heartbreak. Maybe it was the fat of my body making me look so different, or maybe it was actually my heart, shrinking and growing, breaking and healing, alongside my pain.

But the worst part was not losing control over my body. Nor was it the lack of sleep and happiness. The worst part was that, no matter what was going on, it was always about you. You were all I could think of. If I could not sleep it was because you were on my mind. If I had nightmares they were about you. If my body looked different, all I could think about was what you would have thought of it. If you would have liked me better. If maybe you had not left me if I had always been this skinny. If I should text you, just to see. Take a photo, and say that my body missed yours. Maybe you didn’t love me anymore, but at least I knew that you still loved and longed for my body. Maybe I could keep you for a while longer, if only for one night.

Because in the end, I did not care that you took the xbox. Or the speakers. Or even the shirt I loved to borrow. All I cared about was you. All that was missing was you. When you left, you took it all with you. And all I was left with was a person I could not even recognize in the mirror. A person I only knew with and through you, always by your side. A person who was lost without you. When you left, you took all of me with you. Only leaving my empty body, now a hollow suit.

EFCC Freezes Akwa Ibom State Government's Bank Account.

 The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) today froze “all bank accounts” owned by Akwa Ibom State.

According to media reports, the state information commissioner Charles Udoh said state authorities only learnt of the development today, and there were no prior indications from the anti-graft agency.  

Udoh said more information would be provided to Nigerians about the development shortly.

The development comes a day after Governor Samuel Ortom raised an alarm that the EFCC has frozen the state’s bank accounts, trapping workers and pensioners’ salaries in a state beset by hardship following months of deadly attacks by suspected herdsmen.

It would be recalled that the commission blocked those of Benue government yesterday.

This Is Why Adekunle Gold Is Doing A Lot Better Than Lil Kesh Post-YBNL

Sometimes making music should not be determined by the birth of a new trend or what style and flow is currently in vogue. Yes trends can be viral, astronomical and even blown beyond imagination, however, it slowly reclines like a setting sun into the dark. Just one day you wake up and you’re fade up with it and unto the next big thing.
After Olamide set up his self owned record label YBNL and was immediately doing great for himself as a pathfinder. Not quite long the rapper and seldom singer decided to expand beyond himself and signed a couple new guys on the block. Amongst the new boys brought on board Lil Kesh and Adekunle Gold caught our attention within a short time. The route they traveled to musical stardom was different.
Lil Kesh talent fascinated his former boss Olamide after the later supposedly listened to his first professional single ‘Lyrically’. No doubt his kind of talent would definitely pull the attention of his fellow Bariga bred artiste and senior colleague Baddo. A guy with street consciousness, who raps in his indigenous Yoruba dialect was truly a catch for Olamide. ‘Lyrically’ was dope but Lil Kesh’s real music breakthrough came on the wings of a predominant sound ‘Shoki’.
Then your song had to be danceable the ‘shoki’ style to stand a chance to become a hit. Lil Kesh’s ‘Shoki’ was good but a remix with hot boy Davido was truly a game changer. From then on Lil Kesh gradually became a household name, Shoki was nearly bigger than Lil Kesh himself. It didn’t take long before he was tipped as the next best thing as well as competing for awards.
Meanwhile, Adekunle Gold broke grounds when he added his ‘Nigerianess’ to his cover of defunct boy band One Direction song ‘Story Of My Life’. Nigerian music lovers almost instantly fell in love with Adekunle Gold’s cover ‘Sade’. The soundtrack may have been familiar but the singer splash his gold dust on the song and we loved it even though we would still dance shoki. This Adekunle Gold’s sound which flirts between high life and alternative music wasn’t mainstream at the time. The sound wasn’t born out of a trend but of deliberate effort. ‘Sade’ opened doors even then Adekunle further cemented his presence with his kind of music with follow up singles like ‘Orente’, ‘Pick Up’ etc. Here he was Kunle Kosoko aka Adekunle Gold making hits while being different.
Since parting ways with YBNL the reality is that becoming a label boss may not be exactly easy for Lil Kesh & Adekunle even though their former boss Olamide may have made it look like cake.
The reality on ground is that Lil Kesh has suffered a little nose dive after he severed official contract ties with YBNL. It’s now obvious Olamide steadied his cruising ship and gave it a purposeful direction. Lil Kesh is merely groping his way through things these day. On the other hand, Adekunle Gold has made a smooth transition into being independent and his own boss. The truth may be in the fact that Adekunle has managed to carve a niche for himself and gradually metamorphosing into his own genius which is not the same thing for Lil Kesh. For the most part songs from Kesh post-YBNL are not deliberate. The rapper doesn’t seem to have found his uniqueness even though he makes music for the ‘street’.

One thing that most have ensured Adekunle Gold enjoyed a seamless and hitch free transition from being signed to a record label and thereafter becoming a boss is largely due to his image. The ‘Money’ crooner since his days at YBNL had managed to keep a unique and clean imagery for himself. You didn’t need to look too far to see his maturity drip through his persona. As earlier mentioned Lil Kesh has not mastered his unique kind of street music. He still plays along the level of offered by street hop music. Kesh is yet to fully harness and own his sound when it comes to indigenous and street music. His music is mostly built around a fad or trend which often get out of style.
Adekunle Gold is amongst the new breed of artists who have made Nigerians begin listening to a subtle genre or alternative music. His sound is very African, unique and deep. It’s a given you’ll always have music with good lyrical content from Adekunle. Most importantly the golden man knows his stage craft, he puts up a great performance during live performance.

Vulgarity and shallow lyrical depth is closely related with Lil Kesh’s music. Most of the times there is no real story told through his songs. His music always leaves much to be desired.
Adekunle Gold comes from a rare breed of artists who put in work writing songs. His music is one that speaks to you even after a long while. The message stays relevant, there is always a story behind his songs.

The General Overseer, Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, on Saturday’s night, said God had not revealed to him yet who his successor would be.

He stated this at the ongoing ministers’ conference of the mission holding at the Redemption Camp, Mowe, Ogun State. The four-day annual conference is expected to come to a close this evening while the 66th annual convention will start on Monday and last for six days.

According to Pastor Adeboye, God has not told me about any successor at all, whether you believe it or not.

“Elijah knew before Elisha knew that he would succeed him, Moses also knew that Joshua would succeed him and likewise Eli knew before Samuel and not the other way round and therefore, God will tell me first before any other person about who will become my successor as a general overseer.

“So, those of you who are carrying rumour of who would be my successor or claiming to be the one that God had chosen should desist from such act as God had not shown me anybody yet.

”Some even said I would hand over to Bishop David Oyedepo, some said to Pastor Joe Olaiya because the two are very close to me that they do minister during our major events such as the conventions, Holy Ghost congresses and yet another quarter said one of my sons is the one succeeding me.

“But I would advice you to always check sources of your information before believing such information and also to focus on whatever you are doing rather than spreading rumour.

“So, let me say it loud and clear again that God has not told me who my successor is.

“What God had told me several years ago was that He would tell me who my successor would be at least five years before I would be called home and as at this now, He had not told me anything as regards that, which means He is not ready to call me home in the next five years.”

Pastor Adeboye, however, declared that he ‘pity’ who would eventually emerge as his successor because such a person would have to pray more than I do and has to sacrifice a lot also.

“Because I know how many hours I pray a day and I can count how many days I eat in a year too.

“So, whoever that will take over from me, such person will have to surpass me and God will have mercy on the person.”

Unbelievable but undeniable a man using an airplane as his home

Finding an airplane in the middle of the woods Instead of a is not always because of a plane crash. Especially when creative and inventive people like Bruce Campbell are around. Bruce is a retired electrical engineer and built a home in an airplane in Hillsboro, Oregon. He likes to turn planes into beautiful masterpieces that would otherwise become scrap metal. He believes that airplanes can have so much potential to be used even after they have retired. He used his imagination, an old airplane and a good piece of land to create the unique home on Earth.
Bruce was in his early 20s when he purchased a 10-acre piece of land for $23,000 in the forest of Hillsboro, Oregon. From a very young age, he was fond of tinkering with old objects and creating new items from it. His idea was to create a home on the land that he purchased but the plan changed when he saw that another house has already been built there. He heard about Joanne Ussery, a hairdresser from Mississippi who bought a Boeing 727 plane and transformed it into her home.
He was inspired by the idea and thought that buying a large plane is much better and innovative to build a home in. Since he firmly believed that airplanes should be saved from turning into scrap metal, he was up for the idea. He already owned 10 acres of land but needed money to buy and bring a plane to Oregon. In 1999, he bought a Boeing 727 aircraft for $100,000. Transporting the plane from Athens, Greece, to Oregon cost him another $120,000 and made the total cost $220,000.
To transport the plane, they had to take its wings off. Once the plane reached its destination, he installed the wings again. Campbell believed that his new idea would be just a ‘work in progress,’ but it changed into something much more than that after several years of hard work and innovation. He worked on the plane for many years while living in a freight van nearby. However, the van became infested with mice and Campbell was forced to move into the aircraft without getting a building permit. That’s when he understood how spacious the plane was.

Campbell declared about his vision one day that “shredding a beautiful and scintillating jetliner is a tragedy in waste and a profound failure of human imagination.” He said that some people find it strange to have a plane in the middle of the woods but to him, it feels natural to live there. He believes that the aircraft has an “engineering grace unmatched by any other structures people can live within.” He never drew plans for the interior of the Boeing 727 but when he moved in, everything became clear to him. Giving an interview, he said, “Next time you’re in a jetliner, close your eyes for a moment and remove all the seats, all the other people from your mind. Then open your eyes with that vision and consider the expanse of the living room. It’s a good environment; it is.”
He washed off the interior of the aircraft using pressure water spray. It took him four days to wash it. The exterior also needs to be washed every two years. He says that every plane is destined to become an aerospace class castle for anyone. He said, “If a conventional home is a legacy age family Chevy or Ford, an airliner is a fresh new Tesla or Porsche Carrera.” He propped his Boeing 727 airliner on concrete pillars with his driveway. If anyone visits the area, they will notice the amount of work that has been put into the airplane.
Campbell used all the equipment which was already present in the plane. However, he changed things by restoring the modifying the interior of the aircraft to make it fit to live in every day. To him, his home is a constant work in progress while being a fully functional home. To enter the Bruce Campbell’s Boeing home, they need to use the airplane’s original fold-down stairwell. There is a shoe rack with many pairs of slippers for visitors. He prefers people to wear socks and slippers inside the aircraft to keep it clean. He only wears slippers and socks to move inside his house.
The plane has plenty of space, but Bruce is living a modest lifestyle inside the plane. He sleeps on a futon, cooks with a microwave and toaster. He mainly eats cereal and canned food and constructs lots of makeshift equipment. The aircraft also has two working toilets, however, the coolest part is its shower. It is built near the tail of the plane.
The cockpit has all original instruments and now works as reading and entertainment area for Campbell. He said, “It’s a great toy. Trick doors, trick floors. Hatches here, hatches there. Star Trek movies in a Star-Trek-like setting. Having lots of little toys enclosed in a very big toy is nirvana.” He mostly works on his computer at his workstation where he plans to improve the design of his home further. He said, “I think most people are nerds in their hearts in some measure. The point is to have fun.” He built his water and lighting system. He repaired the original LED lights which prove more environmentally friendly.
Campbell is also planning to duplicate his project again in Japan with a Boeing 747. He plans to purchase a retired 747 and built another home in Japan. He believes that his life’s purpose is to make a difference in the world for humanity and the environment. The thought about recycling planes gets him all excited. He said, “My goal is to change humanity’s behavior in this little niche.” He is happy to let curious onlookers and tourists stop by and check out his abode. He also arranges several events all over the year. He organized a concert on the wing of his plane on the grassy area as well.
The plane Campbell used to construct his home in Oregon is a Boeing 727-400 model. It is the only aircraft which was built with three engines and can seat 149 to 189 passengers. Today, only Iran Aseman Airlines are still operating three 727-200s for commercial services.

Nigeria: James Ibori - Happy 60th Birthday Anniversary

 

 For the past years, every 4th of August (except last year’s), had resounded in Oghara, Ethiope-West LGA of Delta State as Chief James Onanefe Ibori’s political followers would mark his birthday. Remarkably,Ibori was not even in Nigeria then. So, with his return last year, the plan for a massive celebration when Ibori would attain age 60 on 4th August 2018, began – though Ibori had never publicly marked a birthday. Since Ibori’s return,  various communities have organized receptions  to thank him for uplifting them during his tenure as Governor, an office he left 11 years ago. This week Monday, 20 heavyweight personalities led by Prof Sam Oyevwaire, representing the entire state visited him at Oghara to condole him over his uncle’s death. Come August 11th the town of Ugiri-Amai in Ndokwa LGA will be hosting him. 

Since Ibori’s return to Nigeria, his Oghara hometown has been a Mecca of sort with political power seekers from all over Nigeria besieging the man they could not destroy for solution to their enquiries. Traditional rulers, political and religious leaders are united in paying homage to the maverick political tactician whose contacts and reach defy ordinary classification. Knowing the place of friendship and human relationship, Ibori has visited Amassoma, the hometown of the former governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieseigha, of blessed memory where he wept by the grave side of his friend and assured the family of his shoulders whenever they needed one. 

On the 4th August  Ibori became 60 years old and God-willing still strong to lead his people who look up to him daily for guidance. The man has returned home to reunite with his people and political family. The enthusiastic reception in February last year said it all. Here was a man who has never set foot on Nigeria’s soil for over six years. He returned without notice only for news of his return to spread like wild fire in the peak of the harmattan season, attracting thousands of Deltans to Oghara to see their hero. It is certain Ibori is the greatest political force ever to rise from Delta State. He is a phenomenon with indescribable or ineffable sense of value in the heart of the people.Put him on the ballot, either for governor again or for president, the South-South will catch fire. He does not pretend to be a saint yet he has followers across all political parties.

 Back home in Delta State, Ibori has been honoured with a chieftaincy title of the ‘Ezi-Oyi Anioma’, meaning, ‘a true friend of Anioma’. He has also be honoured as the Tiemwei (Pillar) of the Kabowei kingdom in Patani Local Government Area by the Pere of Kabowei Kingdom, Erebelu Shedrack, Aduwo III, the Omovudu of the Urhobo nation

19 confirmed dead and several others injured in Indonesia Earthquake

On Sunday, a major earthquake on the Indonesian island of Lombok killed at least 19 people, injured dozens and damaged buildings, officials said.  

The seven-magnitude tremor struck just 10 kilometres (six miles) underground, according to the US Geological Survey. It was followed by two light to moderate secondary quakes and nearly two dozen aftershocks.  

“The latest data we have is 19 people are dead at Tanjung Hospital (North Lombok),” Agus Hendra Sanjaya, Mataram search and rescue spokesman, told AFP.  

Many buildings are thought to have been damaged by the quake in Lombok’s main city of Mataram, said Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman for Indonesia’s disaster mitigation agency.  “They are mostly buildings with weak construction material,” Nugroho said.

Residents in Mataram described a strong jolt that sent people scrambling out of buildings. “Everyone immediately ran out of their homes, everyone is panicking,” Iman, who like many Indonesians has one name, told AFP.  

Electricity was knocked out in several parts of the city and patients were evacuated from the main hospital, witnesses and officials said.
